AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT THE ARMED FORCES SENIOR HIGH TECHNICAL SCHOOL

KFCD’s second quarter programme in 2016 in the Accra Metropolis was at the Ghana Armed Forces Senior High Technical School (AFSTS). The programme took place at the Garrison Methodist/Presby Church in Burma Camp on Tuesday 24th May 2016 with about one thousand students.

In his power-point lecture Dr. Joseph Nelson, gave an overview of Diabetes in general touching on the various types and causes.  He said the KFCD aimed at creating awareness of Type 1 Diabetes in as many people as possible so that they could help children living with the condition. He advised the students to look out for symptoms such as increased thirst, weight loss, frequent passage of urine and tiredness.  He urged parents and guardians to inform school authorities about the condition of their children/wards who may be living with the condition so as to involve them in the care plan.  He entreated teachers to be interested in the care plan of Type 1 Diabetes students in their class so as to be of help in times of their crises.
