AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT THE CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH

The first activity undertaken by the KFCD to mark the 2015 National Diabetes Week/World Diabetes Day in collaboration with the Diabetes Youth Care (DYC) was an Awareness Programme at the Calvary Baptist Church, Adabraka, Accra on Sunday, 8th November 2015.

Dr. Nii Boye of the Trust Hospital, Accra, delivered a brief talk on diabetes to the congregation.  He stated that currently there were 382 million people suffering from diabetes worldwide out of which 5-10 per cent were Type 1 Diabetes cases that depended wholly on insulin for survival. He mentioned some of the symptoms and advised parents to take steps to medically verify these symptoms. Dr. Nii Boye encouraged the congregation that since insulin was a very expensive medication which most families could not afford, there was the need for continued financial support for charities such as the Kafui Foundation for Childhood Diabetes and the Diabetes Youth Care to enable them assist such cases in our communities.
